An
enthusiastic audience applauded the World Premiere of Miami Beach's
very own original comedy musical 'Sobe Wonderland - A Miami Fantasy'
.
Presented
by South Beach theater group, Fourth Dimension, 'Sobe Wonderland
- A Miami Fantasy' celebrates all the fabulousness of Miami -
while also revealing some of the wider social issues facing all
those who live and work in a tourist town.
'Sobe Wonderland – A Miami Fantasy'- is a modern day fractured
fairy tale based on the most popular fairy tale of them all, Cinderella.
It features a wicked stepmother from hell, Evil Lina (Ellen Jameson),
a real estate diva, and her two daughters, George and Jeb. Georgina(Josephine
Bauza) is a fashionista Paris Hilton wannabe and Jebastacia(Carol
Reinoso) is an eco warrior incensed by over development and the
erosion of the Everglades. Their step sister, poor put upon Chicabella
(Maria de Jesus Castellon) dreams of going to the Ball and marrying
a Prince so that she can get legal! Her best and only friend in
that madhouse is a Magic Mirror, Marcus (Parker J. Cristan). South
Beach Royalty is represented by The King, Elvis (Larry Fields)
who is married to The Queen of England (Judith Gindy).
Written
by Cuban American Hector Valdes and British actress, Ellen Jameson,
'Sobe Wonderland- A Miami Fantasy' is an all singing, all dancing
extravaganza of feel good theater.
The
Miami anthem , 'Go To Miami' gets the audience up on their feet
and many joined in the fun when the cast left the stage and invited
them to dance to the vibrant Latin beat.
'Sobe
Wonderland - A Miami Fantasy' opened at the Lincoln Road Community
Church, Miami Beach, where there will be performances this weekend
Friday and Saturday at 8pm.
Thanksgiving
weekend the whole production moves to the landmark newly renovated
Byron Carlyle Theater at 500 71st Miami Beach. On Saturday there
is also a special matinee performance at 3pm - children go free.
'We want to do everything to encourage children to share in the
excitement of live theater, ' says Fourth Dimension Fourth Dimension
Vice President, Hector Valdes.
Also
at the Byron Carlyle there will be a special guest appearance
by the flamboyant Miami Beach entertainer, Adora,
'Sobe
Wonderland- A Miami Fantasy' and Adora are a perfect combination
according to Fourth Dimension of South Beach President, Ellen
Jameson, a former BBC broadcaster who claims to have moved to
Miami Beach at the turn of the century.
'They are both colourful, outrageous and they love dressing up
and having a fun time'
Ellen
was delighted by the reaction when the theater group's new musical
production was presented before an audience for the first time.
She also fondly recalled the first preview of another musical
which she attended back in England some years ago.
'
The phenomenally successful musical Phanthom of the Opera is now
a major part of theatrical musical history, ' she admits, ' but
I was a guest at the country home of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber
the weekend he previewed Phanthom to an invited audience. A piece
of the glass chandelier fell on my head and I kept it for luck!
We
sure needed that luck this weekend at the opening of 'Sobe Wonderland
- a Miami Fantasy''
If
opening night is anything to go by, Fourth Dimension of South
Beach have cashed in on the good luck and it looks like they have
a hit on their hands.
